The Canyons ski resort
Park City, UT
All too often, apres-ski music is some dude in a bar with an acoustic guitar doing Jimmy Buffett and James Taylor cover songs. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it's not something you would go out of your way for. So a huge kudos to The Canyons ski resort for putting on some real music. Saturdays in the springtime, from 3-5 pm, right at the base of the mountain, for free, they bring in bands you actually want to see. The 2005 season included Papa Mali (who I missed), Sonny Landreth (who rocked), and personal favorite The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, pictured here. Although not technically part of the same festival (different sponsors, I suppose), the next week String Cheese Incident played the same stage, same time. |
